I was reserved when I was younger and doubtful about what to do and where to go. Farah Khan’s house is the only place where I was comfortable and I’m still happy when I’m around her. Today, I’m all grown up and go where I think I should. Professional appearances are tiresome, but for friends I will walk the extra mile. House-parties are great and the nice thing is that whether I dropped by or not, friends like Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar never stopped inviting me to their homes. When you’ve been in films for over two decades, the film industry is your home. ■ Golmaal Again will mark your return to slapstick comedies after more than a decade. What was the experience like? I’ve wanted to do a light-hearted film for a long time, more so because my mother was fed up of me doing rona-dhona roles. A lot of people too have been saying that they wanted to see me in a comedy like Biwi No 1 and Hera Pheri. I remember joking with Rohit Shetty at parties, saying, “I want to be part of the Golmaal franchise because I want to just stand there and laugh.” To be honest, even in a film like Golmaal Again, I’m the more serious and credible character, but as part of the team, I get the chance to stand there and laugh at the boys (Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu) who are doing what they do best. I’m working with Rohit for the first time and I’m really happy. There is an unexplained familiarity when I’m on the sets with him. He’s completely focused on the action but at the same time, he makes his actors comfortable. ■ Ajay and you share a bond that goes beyond work, right? Yes, Ajay and I have known each other for 25 years. He was my cousin Sameer Arya’s neighbour and close buddy, a part of my growing up years and that has laid the foundation of our relationship. When I was young, Sameer and Ajay would spy on me, follow me around and threaten to beat up any boys who are caught talking to me. They were the big bullies and if I am single today, it is because of Ajay. I hope he repents and regrets what he did. ■ We’ve heard that he’s now taken the onus of getting you hitched? (Laughs) I told him the other day to please find me a boy to marry. But jokes aside, our relationship has grown because we have worked so much with each other. From among the male actors, if there is anyone I can count on, it’s Ajay. He is a like a child and yet so protective. The atmosphere on set when he’s around is stress-free. We share a unique relationship and an unconditional affection. ■ What do you see when you look back on your two-and-a-half-decade career? I really want to be able to look at my career graph from the outside, objectively, but I find it hard to do that. I was fortunate to find innumerable scripts with well-layered parts for me, films like Maachis, Hu Tu Tu, Maqbool, Life of Pi, The Namesake, Chandni Bar, Astitva, Haider, Drishyam, to name a few. I’m happy the filmmakers who made them thought of me. I didn’t consciously create this graph, I still don’t commit easily to a film but once I do, I give it my all. I’m happy I’m still doing relevant stuff. ■ What next? There is a Luv Ranjan film in which I’m paired with Ajay Devgn. We did Vijaypath in ’94. It’s nice to be able to romance the same hero on screen even after 23 years. ■ What draws you to a film today? For me, the most important aspect is how my character is written and if it allows me to engage with myself when I am in front of the camera. The length of the role is unimportant. When I did Hu Tu Tu (1999) in which I was ready to bomb my own mother or for that matter Maqbool (2003) in which I had a hand in a murder, there were few characters so layered and dark being written for women. I’m grateful to Gulzar saab and Vishal Bhardwaj for giving me these films at a point when I was bored being Miss Goody-Two-Shoes. I realised then, that I had to take a chance with my roles and I’m glad I did.

Bill Smith, president of the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association, said: ‘We’re worried about shark bites, but we’re more worried about drownings.’ But some have made it across, including Travis Phillips who said that he loves the island ‘thats’ where all the shells are’. His friend Madalyn Eads waited for him on the safety of the mainland and watched him to make sure he could get across safely. The future of the island is not clear. The sandbank could continue to grow and form part of Cape Point, or it could vanish as quickly as it appeared.

Because this competition is not for women, but for the men of the Islamic polygamous Wodaabe tribe - an ancient group of nomadic cattle herders who are the vainest and most beautiful people on earth, so they say. The most important date in the Wodaabe calendar is September at the end of the rainy season when sexually liberated tribe gathers ahead of their transhumance migration – to celebrate Gerewol. Most of the time the tribe spend their time in smaller family groups travelling across the harsh Sahel desert, mainly in Niger. In the ultimate test of male prowess, the Yakke is the highlight of Gerewol, where men’s status as sex gods are set in stone or lie in tatters. o finish the look they put white ostrich feathers in their hair, which makes them appear taller – and they have a white stripe painted down their noses to make them look sharper. The time is worth it: when they step out in front of the expert eyes of the women who line up to watch the display, they are truly spectacular. During the dance the men stand shoulder to shoulder and slowly move in a circle. The men are judged by three of the tribe’s most beautiful women, chosen, normally, because their fathers have won previously won the Yaake. Each female judge gets to choose her own winner – and winning brings with it acclaim and their pick of women in the tribe. Watching on are also the tribe’s most eligible women who are looking for their next husband. If they like a man, the women can chose to be 'stolen' by one of the better-looking men, leaving their husbands behind. Those who wish to be stolen wait until their favourite man passes by and tap them on the shoulder. 'We love to go and watch the men at the Gerewol - one look and they know that you like them,' one of the women told the documentary ‘Wodaabe Dance of Warriors’. The fact that the women watching may already have a husband is not important to this polygamous tribe – because in the Wodaabe women have all the sexual freedom – and are allowed more than one husband. Women have all the power when it comes to sex in the Wodaabe tribe. Unmarried girls are allowed to have sex whenever and with whomever they wish. Their first marriage is traditionally arranged by their families when the couple are children – called koogal – or they can marry because of love and attractions, called teegal. A bride stays with her husband until she becomes pregnant, after which goes to live with her mother. She delivers the baby at her mother's home when she becomes a 'boofeydo', which literally means 'someone who has committed an error'. While she is boofeydo, she is not allowed to have any contact with her husband, and he is not allowed to express any interest in either her or the child. After two to three years, she is permitted to visit her husband, but it is still taboo that she should live with him or bring the child with her; this only becomes permissible when her mother has managed to purchase all the items that are necessary for her home. But by then the woman maybe ready for her second marriage - likely to be men of their own choosing at the Gerewol - and it is all about the looks. Wodaabe, who speak the Fula language and herd long-horned Zebu cattle, is the vainest of the African tribes and consider themselves the most beautiful. No self-respecting man, it is said, would be without his pocket mirror. 'A woman with an ugly husband will try to escape,' a tribal woman observed. But he was later released by police due to a lack of evidence and to this day the true identity of the father has never been revealed. Growing up, Gerardo always believed Lina was his sister but at the age of ten was told she was his mother. Gerardo grew up healthy but died at the age of 40 in 1979 after suffering from a bone disease. Lina – who has never spoken about the pregnancy – is still alive aged 85. She married husband Raul in the 1970s, later giving birth to her second son. Her case has often been thought of as a hoax, but doctors say they have x-rays and biopsies that prove she really was pregnant.

A 200-YEAR old mummified mongolian monk was "still alive" in a hibernation-like state when he was found sat in the lotus position, according to a friend of the Dalai Lama. The wizened monk, found in Songinokhairkhan province of Mongolia, was in a deep spiritual meditative state known as "tukdam", according to Dr Barry Kerzin, a well known Buddhist monk and a physician to the Dalai Lama. Over a number a years, a number of other mummified meditators have been found from China to India as the Buddhist monks attempted to turn into a Buddha themselves through prolonged meditation. Gautama Buddha,or simply the Buddha, was a sage upon whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He is believed to have lived in the eastern part of Ancient India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries BC. Statues of the Buddha in the lotus position are a central part of the Buddhist religion. In India alone, over the last 50 years there are said to have been about 40 such cases of meditating Tibetan monks found mummified. Some have even been found encased in metal Buddhas by their peers, as this entombment was supposed to aid along the divine process. On this occasion, the Lama found in the lotus position had actually been stolen and was destined for sale on the black market. Many in the community where he was found, covered in cattle skin, claimed he was one step away from becoming a Buddha before being disturbed by a thief. Dr Barry Kerzin, a famous Buddhist monk and a physician to the Dalai Lama, said: "I had the privilege to take care of some meditators who were in a tukdam state. "If the person is able to remain in this state for more than three weeks - which rarely happens - his body gradually shrinks, and in the end all that remains from the person is his hair, nails, and clothes. "Usually in this case, people who live next to the monk see a rainbow that glows in the sky for several days "This means that he has found a 'rainbow body'. This is the highest state close to the state of Buddha. "If the meditator can continue to stay in this meditative state, he can become a Buddha. "Reaching such a high spiritual level the meditator will also help others, and all the people around will feel a deep sense of joy". But, forensic examinations now completed on the meditating monk found on January 27, may have laid to rest the whole "tukdam" myth, as well as this individual. Tests since carried out at the National Centre of Forensic Expertise at Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital, found that the mummified monk was well and truly dead. He was found to be Tsorzh Sanzhzhav, who died aged around 70 around 130 years ago, meaning he would have been close to 200 had he still been in hibernation as claimed. He was also a disciple of Ovgon Geser Lama, a Buddhist teacher revered highly in the region. He had been buried alongside his master, but the mummy was stolen from the grave in a mountain cave. Investigators travelled to Sodnomdarzhaa Mountain, 30 miles from Tsakhir in the Arkhangai district, where they found the tomb, still containing the body of the Geser Lama. The Geser Lama died in about 1890 while meditating in the lotus position like his student. The body was cleaned and embalmed and his resting place became a shrine. The remains of Tsorzh Sanzhzhav have been returned to the grave. Lead researcher Ganhugiyn Purevbata, founder and professor of the Mongolian Institute of Buddhist Art at Ulaanbaatar Buddhist University, said a more secure structure and shrine is being built there to try to prevent further thefts.

The incident came to light when video of the proceedings went viral on a messaging app. A case has been registered against six persons including the girl's father and the 'Mantrik' (quack) at Chakur police station in Latur district. All 729 separate criminal offences under which he is being investigated involve the rape law. Reports citing law enforcement sources in eastern Russia say the unnamed man forced four of the five orphan girls to succumb to his sexual demands on a daily basis. He and his civil wife had a family of a dozen children including nine foster children, according to RIA. She had fostered three boys and he was the sole legal guardian for the five adolescent girls he is accused of sexually abusing, plus one other child. The couple also had three children of their own, it was reported. It is unclear if the woman was aware of the alleged sexual abuse. Local childcare staff are now under criminal investigation for allowing a suspected paedophile to foster the girls, and failing to make proper checks on the well being of the orphans. The man and woman had received awards and commendations from social services for successfully fostering the children, it is understood. Officials in the Khabarovsk region of eastern Russia are said to be 'deeply shocked' over the allegations against a man seen as a 'model foster father'. Alla Kuznetsova, education minister in the region, said the foster parents had passed repeated inspections by social services. 'In the case of this family, there were no alarms at all,' she said. In the first year there were five inspections. In subsequent years, two checks annually, she said. She confirmed: 'Those five girls for whom the man was guardian have been sent back to the orphanage.' The other foster children were also removed from the family home. It is not known how young the schoolgirls were when the alleged abuse began, reported The Siberian Times. The state paid the widower a total of £1,320 a month to care for the underage girls who he is accused of sexually exploiting. Igor Komissarov, senior assistant to the chairman of Russian Federal Investigative Committee, said: 'It was established that the suspect committed 729 crimes to the five fostered girls.' Ilya Gudkov, from Khabarovsk Regional Investigative Committee, equivalent of the FBI, said: 'The violent sexual actions of the foster father are now under investigation according to article 131 - rape.' Detectives claim that 'between September 2012 and February 2017 the man regularly committed heavy sexually violent crimes against the five children of which he was the guardian. Dr Mrwebi said that the gestation period for a sheep is five months, and that meant that the particular sheep was conceived in late December 2016 or early January 2017. He said it was a time of plentiful rainfall which brings with it many mosquitoes and midges which are carriers of viruses that cause the Rift Valley Fever in sheep. Dr Mrwebi concluded”It is fair to assume, therefore, that the sheep was infected by the RVF virus. “The resultant circulation of the virus in the blood found its way through the maternal blood into the uterus and the foetus, which was at a very critical stage of development. “The infected foetus then, as a result, failed to form properly, leading to the deformity that it became. It does look like a human form but it is not part human at all” he said. The department’s veterinary officials is conducting a post-mortem and its results will be communicated to the public who are fearful in the remote area that witchcraft is at play.
